CLEVELAND, Miss. — Delta State University will honor U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith by naming one of its student training aircraft in her honor during a ceremony next week.
The event is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10, at the Delta State Flight Operations hangar at the Cleveland Municipal Airport, 1021 Airport Terminal Road in Cleveland.
University officials said a Cirrus SR20 G6 training aircraft will be named for Hyde-Smith in recognition of her commitment to Mississippi and support for the future of aviation education.
A luncheon will follow the ceremony.
Delta State’s Commercial Aviation Department trains students for careers in the aviation industry as part of the university’s academic offerings.
Delta State University, located in Cleveland, enrolls nearly 2,800 students from across the United States and more than 45 countries. The university offers programs in business, education, nursing, arts and sciences, as well as specialized programs including commercial aviation, the Delta Music Institute and the Center for Interdisciplinary Geospatial Information.
