HELENA-WEST HELENA, AR (Ben Caxton) — A man who allegedly tried to rob a Helena-West Helena convenience store manager and his son last week is hospitalized after the victim fought back. Just before 6:00 AM Thursday, a man with a gun forced the manager and his child into Jordan’s Kwik Stop on Sebastian Street saying “let me get everything”. The store manager said, “hold on, let me get it for you” before grabbing a gun and shooting the suspect twice. The suspect, 27-year old Demetrius Morant, ran but later showed up at the Helena Regional Hospital. He is currently in critical condition at a Memphis hospital. Morant is charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a minor in the second degree. He will appear in court after he is released from the hospital.
