FORREST CITY, AR (Ben Caxton) — A man who opened fire and shot two police detectives in a Walmart in Forrest City, Arkansas yesterday has died. Lt. Eric Varner was treated and released from the hospital in Forrest City and Detective Eugene Watlington underwent surgery in Memphis and is expected to recover. The situation started with a report about a man in the store making threats. Neither officer was wearing a bullet-resistant vest when they responded. No civilians were injured in the incident on the grocery side of the store, which remains closed while the investigation continues. One person was injured in a shooting at a Memphis Walmart last week, and two people were killed and an officer injured in a shooting at a Walmart in Southaven last July.
