LEXINGTON, Miss.–The ACLU of Mississippi has sued the city of Lexington, in Holmes County, for the arrest of attorney Jill Collen Jefferson, in 2023.

Jefferson has also sued, seeking monetary damages from the city and three police officers.

Jefferson was charged in 2023 with blocking a public street to fideo an arrest. She was found guilty last year. But, a judge rescinded that verdict.

The U.S. Dept. of Justice opened an investigation against the city in 2023 for harassment of Black citizens.

An officer in Collen’s trial swore in an affidavit that police had planned her arrest.
