BELZONI, Miss.–The police chief of Belzoni resigned last week, submitting a letter and publicizing it on the police department’s Facebook page, that accuses some of the town’s alderman of slandering and conspiring against him.

Rogers Simpson, who has served several Delta police departments, submitted the letter May 8, last Thursday.

In the letter, he accuses the unnamed aldermen of hatred and narcissism.

“The environment in this municipality has become so toxic that it has become nearly impossible for me to lead effectively in the eyes of the citizens,” he said.

The caption at the top of the post reads “Sometimes you got to get kicked out the nest to see if you can fly.”

It was unclear from the post where he will fly next.
