BENTONIA, Miss.–The Yazoo County town of Bentonia lost its fire department and town hall Saturday in a fire.
The exact cause of the fire was not clear by Sunday evening.
The fire started between 4 and 5 p.m. Saturday and a thick, black cloud spread out over the row of buildings where the fire station and town hall were situated.
Fire departments from Yazoo City and Flora were called to hello try and save the building, to no avail.
“It burned to the ground… Yes, we lost our station but we built something together tonight something special. God is greater and He will allow us to build bigger and better!” said Fire Chief Scotty Smith, in a social media post.
