CLARKSDALE, Miss.–Clarksdale may be in a little bot of hot water with the IRS over some back payroll taxes neglected by a former deputy clerk.
The matter was discussed during this week’s Board of Commissioners meeting.
But, the city is still looking into how much is owed and what is to blame for the money not being paid.
“I want transparency with this whole item so I’m gonna carry it over until the next meeting so there’s a full explanation,” said Mayor Chuck Espy. “I think that if we acquire (sic) another hundred or two hundred dollars or whatever, so be it. I’d rather hear the transparency of this versus just moving on like another item.”
The city may continue to accrue penalties until it is paid.
