Delta Experiences Flood Issues After Weekend Storms

WALLS, Miss.–Flooding was a problem for some places in the Delta Sunday, following the heavy rain that came with storms Saturday and Saturday night.

A post from the Walls Police Dept. indicated Hwy. 61 from Church Rd. to Starlanding Rd., was being closed Sunday afternoon.

Bolivar County reported 5.5 inches of rain from Saturday and Saturday night’s storms.

Flooding was reported on more than 20 streets in Greenville, including Washington and Hwy. 82, and on several streets in Leland.

According to MEMA, 14 counties reported damage, with an injury in Pontotoc County and one person dying as a result of storms in Jasper County.

Counties reporting damage included: Alcorn, DeSoto, Forrest, Hinds, Jasper, Kemper, Lafayette, Pontotoc, Quitman, Smith, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tunica, and Union.

In addition to the damage, some collateral damage was also reported in Panola County. The South Panola Junior High School and Senior proms were also postponed due to this weekend’s severe weather, with a new date to be determined soon.
