CLEVELAND, Miss.–Delta State University is offering some incoming freshman free admission. The Delta State Free Tuition Scholarship is for first-time freshmen, who are eligible for Pell grants.
The Pell grant would be combined with any other scholarships and the remaining balance paid by Delta State.
“We believe that a student’s financial situation should never be a barrier to earning a college degree,” said DSU President Dr. Daniel J. Ennis. “This scholarship reinforces our mission to empower students and invest in the future of our communities.”
If the student remains eligible for the Pell grant, and is making academic progress toward a degree, tuition would remain free to that student.
Delta State has suffered from anemic enrollment in recent years, causing the school’s offerings to be significantly reshaped and jobs to be cut, as well as the elimination of many traditional degree programs. It was unclear from information provided by the school how they intend to pay the balances for students, long-term.
