Employees at Delta Regional Medical Center Receive Raises

GREENVILLE, Miss.–Employees at Delta Regional Medical Center, in Greenville, have gotten a raise for the first time in several years. But, that makes the budget tight for the county-owned hospital, prompting the CEO to ask the county Board of Supervisors for $300,000 to help cover it.
Hospital CEO Iris Stacker, made the request at this week’s Board of Supervisors meeting.
“Our employees had not had a raise in six years. So, we were able to do a three percent raise for everyone, all of our senior leadership team, except for me,” said Stacker.
She said the Board of Trustees also examined the minimum wage at the hospital, which is $9 per hour.
“That is not sustainable in this kind of economy. So, our board…made the decision to bring it up to $12.”
Stacker then asked the board for $300,000. While some board members praised the economic progress the hospital has made, now being able to make money and be in a positive cash flow position, it did not appear the board would support handing them the requested money.
Supervisor Mala Brooks made a motion to allocate half of that, $150,000. But, that motion also fied.
