DeSOTO COUNTY, Miss.–Four women from DeSoto County are accused of defrauding the NSAP system by not reporting income to keep getting food stamps, said District Atty. Matthew Barton, in a press release Thursday.

The women were arrested Thursday and charged with fraud.

Barton and the Miss. Dept. of Human Services, said the fraud began in 2020 and lasted up to a few months ago and totaled about $131,000 in fraudulent benefits.

Arrested were Stephanie Wright, Syerra Lynks, Tiffany Harrell, Lashonda Smith.

“It’s essentially a food fraud case where they failed to disclose changes and circumstances, omitted income they were receiving in order to qualify for certain government assistance and benefits,” said Barton.
