GREENVILLE, Miss.–Shootings over the holidays moved Greenville Police Chief Marcus Turner to release a statement about violence in the city.
He did not go into specifics or cite any one incident in the statement, which was posted to the Police Department Facebook page.
“I feel the need to address the community following the multiple incidents of shootings that have occurred over the past few days. These incidents impact not only their family and friends but also can traumatize a community,” said Turner.
“These types of incidents are unacceptable. I commit that our department will work with our local law enforcement partners and the community to address the issues through proactive law enforcement efforts, as well as partnering with our stakeholders to make our community safer,” said the chief.
“I want to thank the Greenville Police Department who worked tirelessly to investigate these crimes to seek justice for the victims and hold the offenders accountable. We ask that parents know where their children are at all times and hold them accountable for their actions. During these investigations, all involved will stand prosecution by our justice system.”
He encouraged anyone with information about any of the shootings to call his detectives.
