GRENADA, Miss.–People may be trying to scam storm victims in Grenada County. The sheriff’s department is warning people that some folks have been going door-to-door claiming to be contractors, which sometimes happens after natural disasters.
The Grenada County Sheriff’s Dept. says contractors must be licensed by the state. Public adjusters must also be licensed.
A contractor cannot negotiate an insurance claim unless they are also a licensed insurance adjuster.
You are urged to ask for ID and the proper paperwork. Never pay up front and don’t allow yourself to be pressured into any agreements. You can check state websites for info on licensed adjusters and contractors.
