TUTWILER, Miss.–More than 250 ICE detainees, or undocumented immigrants, may be housed at the Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility in Tutwiler.
The plan to house ICE detainees was announced last week by CoreCivic, the company that operates the private prison.
Yahoo Finance news reports that the company plans to spread ICE detainees arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the U.S. Marshals Service between its prisons in Ohio, Nevada, Oklahoma and Mississippi.
The facility at Tutwiler has a capacity for 2,672 inmates or detainees (people who have been arrested but not convicted of a crime).
The state has also discussed having more inmates housed there, recently adding about one hundred inmates to the population.
