CLARKSDALE, Miss.–Clarksdale is getting ready to use a new landfill that is under construction. But, parts of its build-out await the approval of the Miss. Dept. of Environmental Quality.
Ward 1 Commissioner Bo Plunk pointed out that timing is important because the city has torn down some dilapidated properties and needs a place to put the debris.
“I need to get a timeline so when they (residents) call,  we can give them a timeline on when all this stuff will be picked back up,” said Plunk at Tuesday’s Board of Commissioners meeting.
He also said it’s important the city is in compliance at all times and that the city is waiting on MDEQ, not the other way around.
“I just want to make sure that we don’t get back in a situation we were in when we were getting fined,” said Plunk. “In the past it’s been on us.”
He said it’s important to be able to show the city is waiting on the state.
