BALDWYN, Miss.–Nevin Whetstone was still on the loose Thursday, though someone in Baldwyn in Prentiss County, near Whetstone’s old stomping ground, believed they saw him Thursday morning.
WTVA reported someone called 911 when they thought they saw Whetstone in a car at a service station. Police pulled that car over and say he was not in there.
The 71-year-old broke out of Parchman through the back gate Tuesday. Sunflower County Sheriff James Haywood believes he headed west.
Whetstone, 71, was serving a life sentence for murder in Lee County and a year for escaping the Sunflower County Jail.
The Miss. Dept. of Corrections has not discussed details about how he got out. Whetstone has been locked up since 1984.
