Mississippi Officials Warn of Toll Scam Texts: “We Have No Toll Roads”

GRENADA, Miss.–Delta counties are experiencing a rash of scam texts and calls asking people to send money for a toll they haven’t paid. The Miss. Dept. of Public Safety says that is definitely a scam.

Those texts have been reported by people in Panola, Tunica, Grenada and Washington counties. You may have gotten one yourself. They are generally in broken English that barely makes any sense. The latest round has a deadline of May 11, saying something to the effect of you will be subject to enforcement after that date and your credit and standing with the DMV will be affected.

“We’re aware of the recent phone scams going around. These are scams. Please do not respond,” said Treasure Tyson, director of the Driver Services Bureau of the Miss. Dept. of Public Safety.

“Mississippi does not have toll roads,” she said, which could be your first clue. If you don’t remember going through a toll plaza, then you likely don’t owe a toll.

“Please do not send money or your personal information. Do not click any links. If you get one of those messages, just delete it,” said Tyson.
