Mound Bayou Plans Sewer Improvements in Floodplain, Seeks Public Input

MOUND BAYOU, Miss. — The City of Mound Bayou has proposed sewer line improvements that would affect federally designated floodplain and wetland areas. The project, funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant Program, includes inspecting, cleaning, and repairing about 9,000 feet of sewer mains across several streets.

The city plans to prioritize repairs based on inspection results and use techniques such as pipe replacements, cured-in-place lining, and adjustments to existing manholes. The project could impact approximately one acre of floodplain and wetland areas.

Officials are inviting public comments on alternative sites, methods to minimize environmental impact, and other concerns. Written comments can be submitted to Mound Bayou City Hall by February 3, 2025.

For more details, visit City Hall on Green Avenue during business hours or email Mayor Leighton Aldridge at mayorleightonaldridge@gmail.com.
