OXFORD, Miss.–Timothy Herrington, Jr., of Grenada, does not believe he can get a fair trial in Oxford and is asking the court to move his murder trial out of Lafayette County.
Herrington is set to stand trial for a second time October 13, for the murder of Ole Miss student Jimmy “Jay” Lee, which the prosecution argues was to cover up their romantic relationship.
That is germaine to his request because of all of the news coverage, media attention and social media attention related to the first trial, which ended with a jury not being able to reach a unanimous verdict.
Lee’s remains were found in February, after the conclusion of the first trial.
Herrington remains in jail until the trial.
During the first trial jurors were bussed in from Forrest County.
