JACKSON, Miss.–If you voted for Mississippi Supreme Court in the November 5 general election or the Nov. 26 runoff, you should be aware the new Mississippi Supreme Court justices will be sworn in Jan. 6.
A statement from the court says the swearing in will be at the Gartin Justice Building in Jackson, which serves as the Supreme Court building.
One of the two new justices is State Sen. Jenifer Branning, who is replacing the incumbent Presiding Justice Jim Kitchens. It was Branning who was elected for the Central District, which includes much of the Delta, in the runoff.
It was unclear when an election date would be set to choose her replacement in the state Senate.
Branning is from Neshoba County and is an attorney by trade, a prerequisite for the position of Justice.
