OXFORD, Miss.–An Oxford man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleaded guilty to a manslaughter charge in the death of a one-year-old.
Matthew Brown will actually serve seven years in prison. Twelve of the 20 were suspended and he was given credit for one year already served.
Brown had been accused of murder and pleaded to manslaughter.
The child was found beaten, with bruises and head trauma, when deputies arrived at the house on County Rd. 520 in Lafayette County, March 22, 2024. Deputies attempted CPR to save the child’s life, but the child died at a Memphis hospital.
Brown and the child were not related.
