ROLLING FORK, Miss.–A record-setting black bear was captured in Sharkey County by people with the Miss. Dept. of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks Black Bear Program.
The 510 lbs. bear is known as M18, and is no stranger to the program. He was caught before, in 2022. But, then he only weighed about 360 lbs. Since then he’s put on a bit of weight, which MDWFP called “record growth”.
Before M18 the largest bear on record was one hit and killed in Wilkinson County, just north of Louisiana. That bear was 468 lbs.
