OXFORD, Miss.–Now that the remains of Jimmy “Jay” Lee have been positively identified, his accused killer, Timothy Herrington, Jr., of Grenada, faces a new charge. WREG reports Herrington will be charged today with tampering with evidence.
Lee’s body was found last month in a rural part of Carroll County by hunters and was identified with a gold necklace bearing Lee’s name and later DNA evidence.
He had been missing since July 2022.
Herrington is accused of killing the Ole Miss student to hide a romantic relationship between the two. He went on trial for the killing last year and that ended in a mistrial. Prosecutors tried Herrington without a body and the final jury vote was 11-1 to convict.
A new trial date has not been set.
