Severe Storms Threaten Mississippi Delta Tuesday

CLARKSDALE, Miss.–All of the Delta will have a risk for severe storms Tuesday, said forecaster Nicholas Fenner, with the National Weather Service.

“The northern half of the state is looking at an enhanced risk, or a three out of five risk for severe storms Tuesday,” he said.

That level applies to counties in the northern part of the Delta, while counties in the southern part will be in a two in five risk.

“We’re kind of in a bit of a late spring pattern,” said Fenner. “We have a system coming across the country which will push a cold front through right in that late afternoon to evening time frame, which will maximize the potential for severe storms when you get the combination of daytime heating and the effects of the front to organize those storms.”

Fenner said that will mean the weather will be closer to the way it is in mid-April, with strong winds, hail and even tornadoes possible.

The severe weather will likely be gone by early Wednesday.
