GREENVILLE, Miss.–Tyrone Cook was sworn in Monday as the new city councilman for Ward 6. He was chosen in the runoff special election last week to replace James Wilson, who died in February.
“Tyrone brings with him a deep level of service,” said Mayor Errick Simmons, “28 years as a firefighter, 19 years as a bus driver.”
Simmons said he believes Cook brings the perspective of a long-time public servant and first responder, something the council has not had recently.
“We really look forward to working with Tyrone Cook. He brings something new to this particular council, that level of service.”
Cook’s wife held his Bible when he was sworn in. Simmons congratulated all candidates for the Ward 6 seat.
