GREENVILLE, Miss.–Copper thieves were busy Christmas Eve on Johnson St., just after 1 p.m. But, so were undercover Greenville Police officers.
Those officers notice the thieves taking copper wire and walking back to their car, which was parked beside a vacant house. Once police tried to get them pulled over they took off, leading police on a chase through several neighborhoods.
The thieves wrecked at Hwy. 82 and Raceway Rd., where police were able to get the cuffs on three people.
Reggie King, 24, of Greenville; Candace Jones, 34, of Hollandale; and a juvenile were arrested with a felony amount of copper wire found in the car.
“Getting more copper thieves off the street has become another restless task for our department in recent times,” said Police Chief Marcus Turner.
“I’d like to credit our Criminal Investigations and Special Operations Division’s innovative ways of attacking follow-ups to various crimes in the city. With every passing day, their approach changes because criminal’s tactics are changing, and we will continue to fight against criminal activity in Greenville.”
