New Faces Emerge in Clarksdale: Payden Wins Mayoral Primary

CLARKSDALE, Miss.–Clarksdale will see some changes in its political makeup, with Tuesday’s Democratic primary runoff.

In the race for mayor the Democratic nominee will be Orlando Payden, who defeated Bubba O’Keefe. The numbers were Payden with 1,728 and O’Keefe with 1,271.

In the race for Commissioner of Ward 1, Timothy “Bo” Plunk, the incumbent, will be unseated, receiving 410 votes to his opponent’s 413. Ray Sykes will be the nominee.

In Ward 3 Eddie Earl received 339 votes, with Willie Tuner, Jr., receiving 267 votes.

In Ward 4 Linda C. Downing received 420 votes and Kim Seals received 304 votes.

The general election is June 3. The results from Tuesday are unofficial and will be certified with the counting of absentee ballots next week.
