STAR CITY, AR (Ben Caxton) — 38-year-old David Black of Star City plead guilty to capital murder and was sentenced last week in the beating death of his 11-year-old stepson. Black will spend the rest of his life behind bars, but the plea avoided a potential death penalty sentence. David and Mary Black were both charged with capital murder last summer following Joseph’s death. An autopsy revealed that Joseph died from multiple blunt-force injuries. He had a lacerated liver, abdominal hemorrhaging, hemorrhaging of the pancreas, multiple scalp contusions, multiple impact sites on his head and torso, and bruising of his arms, legs, thighs, and buttocks. The case against 30-year-old Mary Black is set to go to trial this July. If convicted, she too faces a potential death sentence.
