LITTLE ROCK, AR (Ben Caxton) — So far no panic has set in over this year’s flu outbreak which Arkansas officials say has killed 76 people this season in the state. Over the same time period, no deaths have yet been attributed to the COVID-19 Cornoavirus even as the frenzy surrounding it intensifies. The Arkansas Department of Health reports 17 people died from influenza in just the last week alone, including a second pediatric death. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate as many as 20,000 people have died nationwide this season, including 136 children. During the 2018-19 flu season, 120 Arkansas residents died from flu-related complications. The flu is widespread in at least 48 states.
