WASHINGTON, DC (Ben Caxton) — Cory Wilson was a member of the state House when he was appointed to the 10-member state court in February 2019 by Governor Phil Bryant. In August President Donald Trump announced he was nominating Wilson to become a federal district judge in southern Mississippi but the Senate Judiciary Committee has not yet acted on the nomination. As the White House switches Wilsonâs nomination to a different court, Kristi Haskins Johnson is being nominated for the district judgeship in southern Mississippi. She is a former assistant U.S. attorney and earlier this year, she was named solicitor general for the state of Mississippi. If confirmed, she would be the first woman to serve as a federal judge in the district that encompasses the southern half of the state.
