TUNICA, Miss.–Residents who can’t get fiber internet in Tunica County have another wireless option, says the president of Uplink Internet, LLC., which has the contracts to wire as much of the county as possible with broadband.
“It’s not quite as fast as the fiber. But, it’s much faster than any of the other options available in the area right now,” said Scott Litwiller, speaking at Monday’s Board of Supervisors meeting.
Some phases of the project are expected to be complete in the next few months. One of the hold-ups has been replacing some of Entergy’s power poles. Litwiller said they normally bury the wires but for some areas that’s not possible.
So, some people get a sort of two for one deal.
“So, not only are the citizens getting high-speed internet, they’re getting more reliable power, as well,” he said.
The money for the project is coming from a variety of grants and other taxpayer-funded sources.
