GREENVILLE, Miss.–A circularity and recycling drop-off program was announced Monday in Greenville, which Mayor Errick Simmons says is the first in the state and only second of its kind in the country.
“The initiative is designed to make recycling more accessible and to educate residents about circularity— the concept of keeping products and materials in use for as long as possible through reuse, repair, and recycling,” said a news release from the city.
The drop-off site will only accept commonly recyclable materials such as aluminum and plastic, cans and bottles. Educational resources and trained staff will be available on-site to guide residents on proper recycling protocol, said the city.
Hours of operations will be Mon, Tues, and Thurs from 5pm-7pm and Sat from 8am- noon.
“This program is about more than just dropping off recyclables-it’s about shifting our mindset from a throwaway culture to a circular one,” said Simmons. “We are creating a local system where materials stay in use longer, reducing our environmental footprint and building a greener Greenville.”
