INDIANOLA, Miss.–After several tense Board of Supervisor meetings, Sunflower County Supervisor Glen Donald asked at this week’s meeting that the board adopt rules of order.
“I will not be disrespected any longer by saying I can’t say nothing or be quiet or shut up,” said Donald. “I’m not gonna look like a monkey on TV or Facebook sitting here arguing or fighting every meeting.”
Donald, Supervisor Riley Rice and Board Pres. Gloria Dickerson have engaged in several loud, public arguments over various issues that have been broadcast over the board’s Facebook live meetings, the last regarding the possibility of shutting down trail rides in the county.
Donald pointed out that the board had adopted rules before, but that the practice, in his estimation, lasted no longer than one meeting.
He said he believes it’s also a matter of economic development for the county.
“We’re downsizing now and it’s gonna get worse because nobody is gonna want to come to a place where they’re fighting in the meetings all the time, no coordination, no unity,” he said.
