GREENVILLE, Miss.–With heat index values as high as 110 or perhaps even hotter than that, and actual highs close to 100 degrees, a heat advisory is in effect for the Delta Monday, and is likely to be extended for the next several days.
“Areas of the Delta are likely to see some of the highest heat index values we see,” said National Weather Service forecaster Logan Poole. “Heat index values, of course, they’re measured for temperatures that are in the shade, even.”
One of the difficulties of this week will be low chances for any relief from much cloud cover or afternoon thunderstorms.
That will make heat stress far more likely if you have to be outside in the heat.
“So, if you’re out there in the sun working and recreating under the summer blue sky, I want to make sure everyone takes it seriously and hydrates and takes breaks as they need to,” said Poole.
The next substantial rain chances for Delta counties will be Thursday and Friday, but with highs still in the upper 90s.
