CLARKSDALE, Miss.–If you live in Clarksdale, Mayor Chuck Espy has a special request before the expected winter storm moves in Thursday evening.
“We want you to go do wellness visits. We need you to go check on your neighbors,” said the mayor in a video Wednesday.
Espy said that while some people can go to Walmart and get food and supplies, not everyone readily has that capability.
“If you live in a particular neighborhood and you know there is someone who is vulnerable to the elements or who is a senior citizen, knock on their door,” he said.
The northern Delta counties have the best chance for five to seven inches of snow, said National Weather Service forecaster Nicholas Fenner.
“Into the Delta areas, Yazoo City, Greenwood, Greenville, the chances for impacts go up significantly,” he said. “Much better chances are in Greenville and north, Hwy. 82, that corridor and north.”
Tunica County started Wednesday applying salt brine to pavement to keep any ice from sticking. Their efforts were to cover roads that are most well-traveled the best they can.
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and MDOT were asking people to check on road conditions before traveling, which is not recommended.
