CLARKSDALE, Miss.–The Clarksdale Board of Commissioners got a dressing down on matters of solid waste and code enforcement Monday, from a man they have used as a consultant on those matters.
In Victor Wheatley’s opinion, the city has not done enough to address compliance issues for the city’s landfill, which was purchased in 1995.
“Being successful as a consultant, we like to see change. As an agent of change, that didn’t happen,” said Wheatley.
However, one city official rebutted that the city has made enough improvements to their landfill situation that the state Dept. of Environmental Quality is allowing them to start a new landfill cell, which is a new section of land to hold trash.
Wheatly said he’s upset that the city, in his opinion, has also not done all it can with code enforcement.
“My picture-taking this weekend, I’ve given you a lot of time. I’ve got about four cases I can run and I’m not even you’re code enforcement guy. I’m not your police officer.”
The city is not under legal obligation to take Wheatley’s advice or employ his suggested strategies.
