CLARKSDALE, Miss. — Clarksdale celebrated a major development on August 27th with the visit of IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel and U.S. Congressman Bennie Thompson. The officials toured the construction site of the new IRS Call Center, located at 236 Sharkey Avenue in downtown Clarksdale.
The $2.6 million construction project, funded through the Inflation Reduction Act, is scheduled to open this fall. It will create approximately 50 new jobs in the central business district, expected to benefit local businesses and restaurants.
During the visit, Commissioner Werfel met with current IRS employees and engaged with community leaders, while Congressman Thompson was recognized for his key role in passing the Inflation Reduction Act. Clarksdale Mayor Chuck Espy and Coahoma County Board of Supervisors President Pat Davis extended their gratitude and welcome to the visitors.
The project marks a hopeful development for the community, bringing new economic opportunities and support to the local economy.
