SOUTHAVEN, Miss.–A woman from Dallas will serve ten years in federal prison with no chance for early release, for plotting to have a business owner in Southaven killed.
Ashley Grayson, 35, ran an online business that was in competition with the intended victim. Grayson accused that person of creating fake profiles to run down her business in August of 2022. She ten contacted a couple from Memphis and offered them a total of $40,000 to have the competitor killed.
They did not go through with the killing.
“This was a twenty-first century crime where online feuds and senseless rivalries bled into the real world,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Reagan Fondren.
“The defendant tried to hire someone to murder a woman over things that happened exclusively on the internet. Fortunately, no one was physically hurt in this case, but the victim and her family still felt a severe and emotional impact as the result of the defendant’s actions. The proactive response from the investigating agencies and our prosecutors prevented an even more serious crime from occurring.”
