Delta State University Celebrates 99th Anniversary

CLEVELAND, Miss. — Delta State University commemorated its 99th anniversary with a celebration at the Lena Roberts Sillers Chapel. The event brought together students, alumni, faculty, and staff to reflect on the university’s storied history and future.

Athletic Director Mike Kinnison opened the festivities, sharing his long-standing connection to Delta State as a former student athlete, professor, and coach. He emphasized the importance of community support and the influential figures who guided him throughout his journey.

Senior Vicki Carter captivated the audience with her performances of “Rise Up” and “You Will Believe,” prompting President Dr. Daniel J. Ennis to thank her and express hope for her future success.

Ennis highlighted the university’s unique role in bridging the past and future, stating, “No institution in America is more responsible for the future, and more tied to the past, than a university.” He then unveiled the theme for Delta State’s upcoming centennial: “ForEverGreen,” reflecting a commitment to honor history while fostering new growth.

As Delta State approaches its 100th year, the community remains focused on cultivating a vibrant future.
