CLARKSDALE, Miss.–Eight families were put out of a place to live by a fire at the Sunflower Lane Apartments Monday in Clarksdale. While some of the families are being put into new apartments, others still need a place to stay.
City Spokesman Chris Coleman said Tuesday that all of the families are in need of financial help.
“These families have lost everything. I have seen some of the pictures and they are horrific,” said Coleman. “These families are in desperate need of financial support.”
He encouraged businesses, churches and individuals to get involved, saying the mayor and Board of Commissioners have been working to try and help.
“We did receive good news today from our friends at Sunflower Lane Apartments. They told us that six families will be transitioning to new units. But, there are yet two families in need of housing.”
He said cash donations can be made at the city clerk’s office.
As the fire department arrived Monday several people were trapped and at least seven people ended up having to jump from the second floor of the apartments because the fire had trapped them and kept them from ground floor exits.
“Let’s give and be a big blessing to those in need,” said Coleman.
