Gentry High School Student Fatally Shot in Indianola Amid Ongoing Violence

INDIANOLA, Miss.–A Gentry High School student died in a shooting Saturday night in Indianola.
The victim has been ID’d as Ivory Jackson, 18.
Jackson was killed on Hoover St.m which is in the south part of town, just blocks from Gentry High School and Hwy. 49.
The shooting happened about 7 p.m. Jackson died at South Sunflower County Hospital. It was unclear if Jackson was the intended target. Police have not publicly discussed a motive for the killing.
Indianola has experienced a rash of violent crimes and shootings this year. The city has a curfew in place that is meant to prevent violent incidents. But, 7 p.m. is too early for the curfew to be in effect.
Police have not announced an arrest.
