GREENVILLE, Miss.–The Washington County sheriff has promised to support the Greenville Police Dept. in fighting crime, after two murders happened just hours apart Friday morning, with no arrests announced as of Monday afternoon. Another murder happened Sunday.
The killings both happened on South Broadway at 1 a.m., when someone shot up a car, killing Darrius Mitchell, 36, and wounding three other people, and at 4 a.m., just a few feet away, when Anthony Sexton, 37, was found shot and dying in the street.
The Sunday murder was on West Union St., about 9:15 p.m. when Sakool Wilson, 42, was found lying in the street.
Police Chief Marcus Turner, Sheriff Milton Gaston and mayor Errick Simmons have promised more patrols and collaboration between departments.
“The Greenville Police Department is committed to proactive crime prevention and swift enforcement action. Our department is ramping up patrols, utilizing advanced crime analytics, and working closely with state and federal agencies to remove violent offenders from our streets,” said Turner.
“However, law enforcement alone cannot do this as we need the cooperation of our community. We urge residents to report suspicious activity and work alongside us to create a safer Greenville for all.”
Gaston promised increased help from deputies.
“Crime knows no jurisdictional boundaries, which is why this collaboration between city, county, state, and federal law enforcement is critical. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is fully engaged in this effort, providing additional resources to support targeted crime-fighting initiatives. Together, we will ensure that criminals are met with swift justice and that our communities remain protected.”
