GREENVILLE, Miss.–An eye in the sky is watching for crime in Greenville. Actually, the cameras going up this week require monitoring by qualified people to be able to catch crooks in the act.
SkyCop cameras have been installed in various locations in the city, thanks to the help of Greenville Main St. in securing money for the project.
The cameras are not the first such cams in the city. But, the expansion of the SkyCop camera network has been in the works for several months. Mayor Errick Simmons says the camera network is a crime deterrent and is a sign of the commitment the city has to public safety.
“Curbing crime is a collective effort as safety is a shared responsibility. As one, we are committed to making Greenville a safer place for all. Thanks to the dedication of our law enforcement officers, community leaders, engaged citizens, and community stakeholders like Main Street Greenville and Washington County Economic Alliance, we are making strides in curbing crime and fostering a stronger, more secure community,” said Simmons, in a prepared statement.
“We extend our gratitude to our local, state, and federal partners for working alongside us in this ongoing effort. Together, we will continue building a safer and more prosperous Greenville!”
