Greenville Fire Department Explains Recent Smoke Appearance

GREENVILLE, Miss.–Smoke has been seen in the Delta, but not because of fires inside any houses. The Greenville Fire Department says smoke from nearby controlled burns has been settling in the area.
The smoke is coming from farmers burning off their fields in Bolivar County and across the river in Arkansas.
North winds that came along with the front that dropped temperatures this week, have carried the smoke and allowed it to settle over the area. Some of the smoke has been so heavy it could be seen on satellite images.
The fire department says you can download the EPA’s AirNow app to see where the fires are. There are none in Washington County.
