GREENVILLE, Miss.–Greenville may be well on the way to being able to attract companies that will bring more good-paying jobs to the Delta. The Washington County Economic Alliance is implementing a five-year plan to make industrial sites available for those companies.
“Because of the power plant, we are receiving lots of RFPs (requests for proposals) for companies to move to Washington County,” said Justin Burch, president of the Alliance, at Tuesday’s city council meeting.
He said one of the main barriers to that is not having all of the available sites listed.
Burch encouraged anyone with available properties to get the information to his office so those properties can be listed. He said that includes public and private properties which can be leased or sold.
“I can only pitch the properties that we have,” he said.
He said development of the five-year plan is important and invited the council members to a four-hour meeting planned for July to discuss the plan.
“It’s very rare that counties get this level of technical assistance. This is our projected five years to get Washington County back on the real road of economic development, industrial recruitment and jobs,” said Burch.
He said he has also been able to hire someone whose job it will be to get that list updated, so potential employers will know what’s available.
