GREENVILLE, Miss.–Washington County and Greenville are already seeing some of the results from landing the new Delta Blues Advanced Power Station, which is set to be built in the county to replace a much older facility.
Justin Burch, executive director of the Washington County Economic Alliance, told the Board of Supervisors this week that his office has already received inquiries about other potential economic development in the county because the facility will be part of the economic landscape.
“I think that Entergy power plant’s already beginning to make its way externally,” he said. “I do know that we’ve received an award from the Southern Economic Development Council for getting that power plant.”
But, an award is not results. Burch said his office is working to make sure more economic development happens.
“That helped kind of put us on the map with these industrial partnerships,” he said, “which I think will only increase as that thing comes online in 2028.”
Burch also added in his monthly report to the board that his office is continuing to secure funding for cultural projects like the Shotgun House, in Greenville, a cultural landmark that he believes will increase tourism.
