MOUND BAYOU, Miss. — Community members are being invited to take a stand against gun violence during the upcoming “Gun Violence Awareness Walk: Steps for Peace,” hosted by Inside Out Academy on Saturday, June 6.

The event will begin at 7:30 a.m. at Taborian Hospital in Mound Bayou, where participants will gather before embarking on the awareness walk. Organizers are encouraging attendees to wear orange, the national color associated with gun violence awareness and prevention efforts.

According to promotional materials, the walk is designed to bring together survivors of gun violence, youth, parents, churches, community organizations and local residents in a united effort to promote peace and raise awareness about the impact of violence in communities.

The event’s theme, “Steps for Peace,” emphasizes community involvement and collective action to reduce violence and foster safer neighborhoods.

Following the walk, organizers will host a Youth Healing Forum aimed at providing young people with an opportunity to discuss the effects of gun violence, share experiences and explore pathways toward healing and positive change.
Inside Out Academy said the event seeks to encourage dialogue, strengthen community bonds and support efforts to create a safer future for residents.

“Together, we can take steps toward healing, build stronger communities, and create a safer future for all,” organizers stated in the event announcement.

The event is open to the public. Organizers are encouraging broad participation from families, faith-based groups, civic organizations and community leaders.

The walk will begin at Taborian Hospital, located in Mound Bayou.
