INDIANOLA, Miss.–Indianola aldermen voted to give themselves a $10,000 raise in a recent closed session.
The Enterprise-Tocsin discovered the raise and reported it last week. Aldermen previously made $8,000 per year. That went up to $18,000.
The vote was 3-2, with aldermen Sam Brock, Jr., Ruben Woods and Marvin Elder, voting in favor of the raise. Those are the same aldermen on the hook for around $14,000 a piece, owed to the state for a contract awarded, that was deemed illegal.
The three are also being sued by the state Attorney General’s office for that money and either will have to pay the money personally or through their bonding company.
