OXFORD, Miss.–Jimmie “Jay” Lee has been declared legally dead by a judge in Oxford.
Lee, who was a student at Ole Miss, has not been seen since July of 2022, and Sheldon Herrington is scheduled to go on trial for his murder in December.
Prosecutors believe the two were involved in a relationship and Herrington killed Lee to cover it up.
Lee’s family filed papers to have him declared legally dead in September and a judge has now granted that request.
It is believed Herrington disposed of Lee’s body after killing him. Prosecutors are expected to present evidence to that effect during the trial.
