BOLIVAR COUNTY, Miss.–You may remember the story about the shooting of State Trooper Ryan Watson, which happened May 2, 2023. The man accused in the shooting has received a 15-year sentence not for the shooting itself, but on a federal ammunition charge.
Stanley Self, Jr., 25, led the trooper on a chase through the county after Wtason tried to pull him over. At the end of the chase, Watson was shot.
Self had previous convictions including aggravated assault and robbery and was prevented from having ammo under federal law. Police did not find the gun used in the shooting, but did find shell casings, which were enough to convict Self.
Self will serve his sentence concurrently with any sentence he may get on state charges.
